Women’s History Month celebrated March 21 at ECSU

March 17, 2006 The Department of History and Political Science at Elizabeth City State University announces the inaugural Women’s History Month program at 11 a.m. on March 21 in the Theater, room #206, of the new Ridley Student Center. The keynote speaker is Dr. Keisha Burfoot, a Chesapeake-based medical doctor and speaker. Dr. Burfoot will speak on the theme, "The Contributions of African American Women to Medicine and Science." Dr. Burfoot was born in New York City the eldest of four siblings. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Trinity College in Hartford, Ct., and her Doctorate of Medicine from Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pa. She completed residency training for her specialty at The University of Medicine of New Jersey in Newark. Before entering residency, she served as a medical missionary in Bomet, Kenya. Dr. Burfoot has received numerous awards for professional and civic service. She is a member of The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Medical Association and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority Incorporated. She is a partner in the Chesapeake, Virginia-based obstetrical practice of Corney, Jordan and Jones. For more information, contact Dr. Flora B.
