University Players present Folktales from Around the World

February 07, 2006 The University Players, Elizabeth City State Universitys drama troupe, will present Folktales from Around the World on February 16 – 18. The performance will begin each evening at 7:30 p.m. in the Mickey L. Burnim Fine Arts Center on the Elizabeth City State University campus. The play will consist of two folktales: Pedro de Urdemalas and African Trio by Barabara Winther. Pedro de Urdemalas, a Mexican folktale, tells the story of a mischief-maker (Pedro) who tricks the greedy rich and gives to the poor! The African Trio consists of three folktales from Africa: The Fierce Creature, When the Hare Brought the Sun, and The Princess Who Was Hidden from the World. These folktales extend from Kenya to Southern Africa, and Liberia, offering a multitude of tidbits of wit and wisdom. The University Players production of the Folktales from Around the World is directed by Billicia Charnelle Hines, the new assistant theatre professor at ECSU. Admission prices are $5 for the general public, $2 for children 17 and under, $4 for senior citizens and ECSU faculty/staff/ alumni, and $2 for ECSU students. Tickets may be purchased at the door on the day of performances.
