The University Players at Elizabeth City State University proudly present the play, "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf" by Ntozake Shange and directed by Assistant Professor Billicia Charnelle Hines. The play begins at 8 p.m., February 22 – 24 in the G. R. Little Theater. "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf" is a series of 20 poems performed through a cast of nameless women, known only by a color: Lady in Yellow, Lady in Purple, etc. The poems communicate the hardships of physical and emotional abuse, the strength of unity, and the tragedy of personal losses. The play offers the audience a perspective on the challenges females of color face in modern America. Following each performance, the ECSU Women’s Center for Violence Prevention will present a forum on several related issues. Due to the serious subject matter, youths under age 13 are strongly advised not to attend. Tickets are available at the ECSU Bookstore in the Ridley Student Center and the ECSU Cashier’s Window in the Marion D. Thorpe Administration Building. Tickets for ECSU faculty, staff and area senior citizens are $5. Tickets prices for ECSU students are $3 and $6 for the general public. For more information, call 252-335-3436.
