“The President’s Own” US Marine Band performs at ECSU on October 5

Department of Music at Elizabeth City State University will host the "The President’s Own" United States Marine Band at 7:30 p.m. on October 5 in the R. L. Vaughan Center. The ensemble includes over 150 male and female professional musicians, many with 20 or more years of experience. Many of the musicians are graduates from the nation’s most prestigious conservatories and universities. The United States Marine Band was established in 1798 by an act of congress by President John Adams and made its debut on New Year’s Day 1801. The band has performed for every president since Thomas Jefferson who gave the band the title "The President’s Own." The band also plays for the Commandant of the Marine Corp, various ceremonies, dinners, receptions and as an accompaniment for famous, entertainers and other performances in Washington, D.C. Their public tours have led them across the country to engagements. While at ECSU, "The President’s Own." United States Marine Band will perform patriotic favorites, spirituals, marches and more.
