The Links honor ECSU Chancellor at White Rose Luncheon

Elizabeth City Chapter of The Links, Inc. recognized ECSU Chancellor Willie J. Gilchrist during its biennial White Rose Luncheon on Saturday, April 10, at the K. E. White Graduate Center.&nbsp The honorees are reserved for men who have made the difference in the lives of young men particularly as mentors. Gilchrist began serving as Chancellor in 2007 but has been in education over 40 years as a teacher, assistant principal, principal and superintendent, member of the UNC Board of Governors.
Other honorees included the Rev. Ricky Banks, Dr. Hezekiah Brown, Mr. Cecil Perry, Mr. Billy Hines, Dr. Lindsey White, and Mr. Linwood Williams.&nbsp The guest speaker was The Honorable Jerruald C. Jones, District Court Judge, Norfolk, Va.
&nbspThe Links, Incorporated is an international, not-for-profit corporation, established in 1946. The membership consists of 12,000 professional women of color in 270 chapters located in 42 states, the District of Columbia and the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. It is one of the nation’s oldest and largest volunteer service organizations of extraordinary women who are committed to enriching, sustaining and ensuring the culture and economic survival of African Americans and other persons of African ancestry. The outstanding programming of The Links, Incorporated has four facets which include national trends and services, the arts, services to youth and international trends and services. The programs are implemented through strategies such as public information and education, economic development, and public policy campaigns.
