September 26, 2006Successfest, the annual fundraiser for ECSU’s radio station, WRVS-FM 89.9 and its TV station, W18BB-TV, will be held during the first week of October. The radio station will broadcast its fundraising programs between 6 a.m. and 5 pm., October 1-6. The television station will broadcast a telethon from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., October 1 – 5 on Time Warner Cable Channel 22 and on Channel 18 for viewers who do not subscribe to Time Warner Cable. Each year, Successfest welcomes visitors to the airwaves from the community, area businesses and organizations to donate funds to the radio station and TV station. WRVS-FM 89.9 is an affiliate of National Public Radio and Public Radio International. Thanks to those networks, WRVS-FM 89.9 can offer the same valuable news programs that are broadcast in major cities such as "Morning Edition," "All Things Considered," "News and Notes" and "The Tavis Smiley Show." WRVS-FM 89.9 is a nonprofit radio station like other NPR stations that depends on donors to assist them with the costs of daily operations, news and public affairs programming and broadcast equipment. In exchange, the listener receives informative programming without interruptions from advertisers. Donations are needed. For more information on donating to the station or becoming a volunteer, call Ms. Greer Holmes, 252-335-3746 or Melba Brown, interim general manager for the stations, 252-335-3985.
