April 07, 2006The School of Arts and Humanities at Elizabeth City State University will host The Spring Arts Festival the week of April 18 – 23. "Sharing the Arts" is this year’s theme for this festival of live performances, workshops and speeches by ECSU faculty, staff and specified guests below: April 18
10 a.m. – 4 p.m., Art Exhibit: ECSU faculty, staff and community artists present assorted sculptures, paintings, ceramics and more in the Art Gallery, room #133 of the Mickey L. Burnim Fine Arts Center and at Red Rabbit Art Gallery, located at 103 West Main Street, Elizabeth City. This display is available throughout the Spring Arts Festival. 12 p.m., Brown Bag Discussion: "The Art of the Academy," in the G. R. Little Theatre Participants will learn jewelry making tips. 2 p.m., Unveiling and Dedication of the Ananse Obelisk: This sculpture is dedicated to the ECSU School of Arts and Humanities. The monument is located at the quadrangle of the Mickey L. Burnim Fine Arts Center. Ananse the spider is a character who appears in folktales by the Ananse people of Ghana, West Africa. Ananse’s web symbolizes creativity. 7:30 p.m., The Chancellor’s Spring Arts Concert featuring the University Choir with Professor Billy C. Hines, conductor, and the ECSU Symphonic Wind Ensemble with Professor Ellard L. Forrester, conductor, in the auditorium of the Mickey L. Burnim Fine Arts Center April 19
10 a.m., Exploration of Negro Spirituals: Dr. Glenda Griffin explores the role of the African American Negro spirituals in the auditorium of Johnson Hall. 10 a.m. – 4 p.m., Art Exhibit: ECSU faculty, staff and community artists present assorted sculptures, paintings, ceramics and more in the Art Gallery, room #133 of the Mickey L. Burnim Fine Arts Center and at Red Rabbit Art Gallery, located at 103 West Main Street, Elizabeth City. This display is available throughout the Spring Arts Festival. 2 p.m., A forum hosted by the ECSU Criminal Justice Department and the Women Studies Program in the auditorium of Moore Hall 5:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., Recording Studio Workshop: Professor Larry Moore demonstrates the multi-track professional recording studio. Advance registration is required and the sessions are limited to 30 participants. R. Little Theater. This festival includes original works by ECSU students. 7:30 p.m., The ECSU Collegians Jazz Ensemble concert with Joel L. Joyner, a guest trumpet soloist in the Mickey L.
