Dr. Cheryl Lewis Jackson announces, Resources for an Inclusive Future, a partnership between ECSU Education Talent Search Program and Yale University School of Forestry and Environmental Studies.&nbsp This summer institute will be held June 28 – 29.
The U. S. Department of Education will fund the institute that will allow 30 northeastern North Carolina students, grades 8 -12, to attend. Students are selected based on their academic success and reputation as a young leader in their community. Resources for an Inclusive Future is a collaborative effort of ECSU, Yale University, Mississippi State University and Tuskegee University. The program is sponsored in part by the International Paper Company, National Parks Service, and the U.S. Fish &amp Wildlife Service.&nbsp RIF strives to introduce burgeoning young scholars to the fields in the environment and natural resources.
With emphasis on students from minority backgrounds, RIF focuses on the need for diversity of thought, religion, race, gender and ethnic origin in environmental and natural resources.
"This is a really good opportunity for area students. We’ve received over 45 applications for the institute. We hope these students will seriously consider environmental and natural resources careers if they never have," Lewis said. "There’s a growing need for those professionals so there’s no better time to prepare than now."
