Physic majors rewarded for their research poster

Ama Agyapong, a junior from Ghana, West Africa majoring in physics, received an award in recognition of her research poster presentation at the 2015 Society for Advancement of Chicanos/Hispanics and Native Americans in Science (SACNAS) conference in Washington, D.C. She was one of nearly a thousand undergraduate and graduate student presenters who displayed posters at the event.
Agyapong’s research poster reflected research she has been conducting since her freshman year under the supervision of Dr. Victor Adedeji in the Natural Sciences Department. She and classmate Tanvi Patel, of Gujarat, India, are working on “smart” window materials that can be used to block heat waves that allow visible light (rainbow colors) to pass through glass. Ultimately, the research could contribute to various energy savings mechanisms involving the use of glass window products.
