Partnerships for Green Economy held on March 17

On March 17, Elizabeth City State University presents "Communities & Conservation: Partnerships for a Green Economy" in the K. E. White Graduate and Continuing Education Center. Registration will be held from 8:30 a.m. until 9 a.m. for a series of presentations occurring through the afternoon. This event is open to the public but reservations be should be made by March 13th. Lunch will be provided for registered participants. There is no registration fee. Elizabeth City State University and The Albemarle – Pamlico Conservation and the Communities Collaborative are hosting the event. It’s the first event held to publicize the initiative to create a green economy in the Albemarle. The meeting will feature a presentation by Majora Carter, a globally-recognized activist in the emerging green economy. Carter is partnering with ECSU in developing its Northeast-North Carolina Green Economy Initiative. The Green Economy Initiative aims to join public and private organizations in a unique partnership to stimulate economic development and job creation in the short-term, while laying the groundwork for: (1) diversifying and reconfiguring the region’s economy to better capitalize on its rich assets while also (2) helping communities build flexibility and resilience to respond to the impacts of climate change and sea level rise. Dr. Scott Bradshaw, the director of the Center for Research and Evaluation at ECSU is the recipient of a $400,000 grant from the North Carolina Rural Center for the development of the university’s green economy initiative– a two year project. By forming partnerships, the university hopes to stimulate green economic opportunities in the region.
