More Than $153,000 Raised for ECSU’s 7th Annual Day of Giving
Elizabeth City State University exceeded its 2023 Day of Giving fundraising goal to the tune of $63,400 by raising $153,478 for the annual giving campaign. It was the largest fundraising tally since the school’s annual campaign began in 2017, according to university leadership.
“This outpouring of donations for our scholars and programs at the university will make a significant difference in the life of our institution,” said Gary Brown, Ph.D., ECSU Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and University Advancement.
The donations included contributions from faculty, staff, alumni, stakeholders and the greater community. The total dollar amount included gifts from 77 first-time donors. As part of the call to action, university leaders asked students and alumni to identify either their residence halls or Greek organization affiliations as they donated. To that end, residents of the campus’ Bias Hall had the highest number of donors and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated members had the highest gift total, $6,663. Geographically, there were 318 donors spanning from California to North Carolina.
In 2022, ECSU was ranked the number one most affordable, four year Historically Black College and University by the website Student Loan Hero and in 2021 U.S. News and World Report ranked ECSU fourth in the Top Public Schools in the Regional South ranking.
“Our university is thriving, and it is because of you that we can ensure its sustainability today and, in the future,” Brown said. “On behalf of our chancellor, Dr. Karrie G. Dixon, and the students, faculty and staff of Elizabeth City State University, I extend our gratitude to you for believing that “Great Things Happen When Vikings Give!”
