McNair and Edwards win 2012 leadership awards

The Division of Student Affairs at Elizabeth City State University recently held a ceremony to recognize outstanding student leaders for their academic and leadership achievements. DeVon McNair, a senior from Kinston, N.C., won the Chancellor’s Student Leadership Award. The eligible student must be a junior or senior student who possesses leadership qualities is an ambassador for the university and has exemplified a genuine passion for the university. A minimum 3.0 grade point average is required. McNair appears with ECSU Chancellor Willie J. Gilchrist. Valerie Edwards, a junior from Whiteville, N.C., won the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Award. Eligible students can be a freshman, sophomore or junior who has been involved as an active participant and supporter of programs sponsored by the Division of Student Affairs. This student possesses many of the core values of the Student Affairs profession such as ethical decision making, service, integrity, diversity and excellence and may aspire to work in the field of Student Affairs. A minimum GPA of 2.5 is required. Edwards appears with Dr. Anthony Brown, vice chancellor for the Division of Student Affairs.
