History and Political Science majors claim top awards at Honors Convocation

The Department of History and Political Science distributed top awards to students for their outstanding performance in the last academic year. David McCartney received the Outstanding Achievement Award for History which is reserved for a senior with the highest grade point average. Joshua Finney, a Huntersville N.C. resident, received the Outstanding Achievement Award for Political Science which is reserved for a senior with the highest grade point average. Joseph Thornhill , an Elkins, W.Va, resident, received the Melvin L. Murphy Research Award in History. The award is reserved for a student majoring in history who produced best research paper in a Senior Capstone Course. Bianca Kegler, a Fayetteville, N.C. resident, received the Naginder Dhillon Research Award in Political Science which is reserved for a political science major who produced the best research paper in a Senior Capstone Course. Kaylyn Clark, an Elizabeth City, N.C. resident, received the Academic Honors Award: Underclassmen in Political Science award which is reserved for the student who has completed at least 30 semester hours and has a minimum grade point average of 3.5 Alexa Speller. An Aulander, N.C. resident, received the Academic Honors Award: Underclassmen in History award reserved for the student who has completed at least 30 semester hours and has a minimum grade point average of 3.5. Nekeisha Gilbert, a South Mills, N.C. resident, received the Academic Honors Award: Best Upperclassmen in Political Science which is reserved for a junior or senior who has a minimum 3.5 grade point average. Corry Ise, an Elizabeth City, N.C. resident, and David McCartney, a Camden, N.C. resident, are the recipients of the Academic Honors Award: Best Upperclassmen in History. It is reserved for juniors or seniors with a minimum of 3.5 grade point average. Both have a 4.0 grade point average. Alexa Speller and Bianca Kegler are recipients of the Outstanding Service to Department and Community Award for Department of History and Political Science. The award is given for students who have contributed broad support in the department and in the community.
