October 20, 2008
The ECSU Vikings remain perfect in conference play with a 70-6 drudging of Lincoln University of Pennsylvania Saturday afternoon at Avon Grove High School. The 70 points represents the Vikings largest scoring output since a 74-12 win over Hampton University in 1971, the same season ECSU captured its only CIAA Football Championship. Curtis Rich threw for 211 yards, two touchdowns and rushed for another, a 10-yard score to push the lead to 34-0 with 2:32 remaining in the first half. His passing scores went for 41 and 53 yards to Dexter Manley and Bryan Fields, respectively. Senior tailback Dennis Hamilton rushed for a career high 162 yards on 14 carries and also collected his fourth rushing score of the season. His 37-yard touchdown, at the 12:14 mark of the opening quarter, represented the Vikings first score of the afternoon. Defensively the Vikings surrendered a season low 123 yards of total offense to the Lions. Jeff Lynn, Jr. had two interceptions for 39 yards and three pass breakups. The Vikings (5-3, 5-0) will seek to secure their second appearance in the past three seasons in the CIAA Championship when they host Saint Paul’s College for Homecoming 2008 Saturday, October 25th at Roebuck Stadium. Tickets, $15, for the homecoming game are available at the ECSU Cashier’s Window in the Marion D. Thorpe Administration Building. For more information on ECSU Athletics, visit www.ecsuvikings.com.
