ECSU receives $20,000 from State Farm

The Elizabeth City State University Foundation has been awarded a grant of $20,000 from State Farm Insurance Company. The funds are being provided through State Farm’s "Good Neighborhood Citizenship" Program, the umbrella for the charitable efforts of State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance Company and State Farm Companies Foundation. The funds will be used to support MONEY MATTER$, a financial literacy/consumer education program implemented by the ECSU Community Development Program. The MONEY MATTER$ Project will offer training and technical assistance to help local residents, particularly low wealth households, enhance their money management skills and to increase their knowledge of basic financial services. Through a series of educational workshops/seminars and one-on-one consultations the series will focus on the following topics: (1) Household budgeting (2) Debt reduction (3) Use of credit (4) Homeownership (5) Home foreclosure prevention (6) Consumer protection. The MONEY MATTER$ Project will be implemented through December 2009, primarily in Pasquotank, Camden, Perquimans and Gates counties.
