Final preparations are underway across the campus as Elizabeth City State University moves closer to the 2009-2010 academic year. University officials are projecting 726 new freshmen and 200 transfer students will arrive. The university has held two student orientation sessions this summer, and an additional session is scheduled for August 13 through August 14. Nearly 50 peer mentors known as Vikings Assisting New Students (VANS) greeted the students and their parents or guardians at previous sessions. The orientation program introduces students to student services programs, university traditions and academic programs.
Freshmen can check into residence halls between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on August 15 and the upperclassmen will check into residence halls during the same hours on August 16. The university’s 10 residence halls are expected to be filled to capacity, which is 1,615 beds. Residence Life estimates up to 158 students will be housed off campus.
