ELIZABETH CITY, NC- Five members of the Elizabeth City State University football team have been named to the 2006 CIAA All-Rookie Team as voted by the CIAA Sports Information Director’s Association. On the offensive side the Vikings place Billy Wiggins, II, Daniel Mendez and Brian Moore. Wiggins has been one on the most exciting playmakers for ECSU this year as he has returned two punts for touchdowns. He leads the CIAA in punt return yardage and ranks fourth overall in NCAA Division II in the same category. Mendez served as the primary extra point kicker this year for the Vikings while Moore was part of an offensive unit that helped ECSU to a second place rank in scoring offense. On the opposite side Justin Hamilton and Todd Irving headline the All-Rookie Defensive Team. Hamilton was twice named CIAA Rookie of the Week and ranks third in the conference in interceptions with 5 picks. Irving has helped the Vikings execute four shutouts this season. The Vikings will take on N.C. Central for the CIAA Championship Saturday, November 11 at 1:00pm at O’Kelly-Riddick Stadium in Durham, NC.
