June 18, 2006Elizabeth City State University is pleased to announce it will offer another master’s degree program beginning this fall, a Master of School Administration. The University of North Carolina Board of Governors recently approved the new master’s degree program and applicants have until July 15 to apply for admission. ECSU’s School of Education and Psychology will accept students for enrollment in the program that begins August 2006. A maximum of 20 students will be accepted into the program annually. This degree program is intended to prepare educators to work as assistant principals, principals, curriculum specialists and in other educational leadership positions. Educators develop proficiency in school law, school finance, management and supervision, technology, curriculum and instruction, research, student growth and development. Ultimately, it is designed to prepare individuals for licensure in school administration and supervision. According to Dr. Cheryl J. Lewis, interim associate vice chancellor for academic affairs, this program will provide instruction through the traditional classroom setting, online classes, teleconferences and at surrounding local educational agencies (LEAs). Through these instructional options, students can pursue a graduate degree while maintaining their full-time jobs and personal and family responsibilities. Increasingly, students value the convenience of distance education options such as Internet courses and classes offered nearer to home at LEAs. This new program brings the total number of master’s degrees at ECSU to four. ECSU also offers master’s in elementary education, biology, and mathematics.
