The ECSU Music Department presents two concerts during the first week of December to complement your entertainment guide for the holidays:
First, The ECSU Albemarle Symphony Orchestra will present its holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, December 2 in the Floyd L Robinson auditorium of the Mickey L. Burnim Fine Arts Center. The music will include themes from the 2004 movie, "The Polar Express," "It’s the most Wonderful Time of the Year," and "Festive Sounds of Hanukah" and many more holiday favorites. Dr. Janine Parnell is the conductor.
Next, the ECSU Concert Choir will present its annual Christmas concert at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 3 in the Floyd L Robinson Auditorium of the Mickey L. Burnim Fine Arts Center. The choir will present Antonio Vivaldi’s "Gloria" – RV 589.&nbsp The 30 minute cantata was composed while Vivaldi was employed at the Ospedale della Pietà , a Venice music school, convent and orphanage where the composer served as a music instructor.&nbsp The work depicts the maturity of Vivaldi’s output and the emerging style of the late Italian Baroque.&nbsp&nbsp
The second half of the program will feature familiar tunes from the Christmas season.
Dr. Walter Swan is the director of choral activities and associate professor of music in the ECSU Music Department. For more information on these free concerts, contact the ECSU Music Department, 252-335-3359.
