October 12, 2006 ECSU will host the "High School Bowl," an academic quiz bowl, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on October 21 at the K. E. White Graduate Center. Ten teams will participate in this double elimination competition. Teens from area high schools will test their knowledge of history, current events, literature, religion, the sciences, music, mathematics and pop culture for prizes and awards. The topics are relevant to areas of study the students now cover and some of the topics they will further study as college students. While the event is held as a rewarding educational experience, it also showcases the knowledge base of teens living in this region. Mr. Derrick Wilkins, the tournament director of this quiz bowl, said he’s proud that ECSU can host the event. "Our first tournament gave students from this region an opportunity to compete in a challenging, academic competition without traveling to Raleigh or Chapel Hill," Wilkins said. "One of the high school coaches who participated in last year’s event said it was one of the most organized events he has attended." The "High School Bowl" is the high school version of America’s favorite question and answer game, the Emmy and Peabody award-winning "College Bowl." In over 35 years on TV and live in communities all across America, the "High School Bowl" has become one of the best-loved, most-watched local competitions. For the second year, ECSU is proud to host this rewarding competition for students in northeastern North Carolina. High school teams from the following areas will compete in this year’s tournament
