ECSU Hosts NC Music Teachers Association Conference And Nationally Acclaimed Musician Oct. 5-
Elizabeth City State University is hosting the 59th annual North Carolina Music Teacher Association (NCMTA) Conference. The event will be highlighted by a recital featuring two celebrated musicians, one a graduate of the North Carolina School of the Arts.
Beginning Oct. 5 and running through Oct. 7, music teachers from across North Carolina will converge on the ECSU campus for three days of exhibitions, workshops, lectures and a recital. Music educators will discuss topics ranging from Arts Awareness and Advocacy, to Gems of the Intermediate Concerto Repertoire.
On Friday, Oct. 6, 8 p.m. in the Mickey L. Burnim Fine Arts Center, pianist Willis Delony and vibraphonist Jon Metzger will give a free, public recital.
Delony is a nationally acclaimed classical and jazz pianist. He is currently the Virginia Martin Howard Professor of Piano and Professor of Jazz Studies at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, where he has been a member of the School of Music faculty since 2000.
Metzger is an internationally celebrated jazz musician who holds a Bachelor and Master of Music degree from the North Carolina School of the Arts. A past winner of the National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship Grant for Performance, Metzger has performed for royalty and heads of state while serving as a jazz ambassador to more than 20 countries.
The recital is free, and open to the public.
