ECSU holds Founder’s Day Convocation March 6

Elizabeth City State University will hold the Founder’s Day Convocation at 10 a.m. on March 6 in the auditorium of the Mickey L. Burnim Fine Arts Center. Mr. Joseph T. Abron, grandson of the university’s second president John Henry Bias, is the speaker. This year, the university celebrates 118 years of public, higher education. Mr. Abron, a real estate appraiser and broker, has served the Triangle area and the state of North Carolina over 25 years. He is owner and Chief Appraiser of Abron & Associates Realty & Appraisal Company. Though his work led him to a variety of real estate contract transactions, he has primarily worked with residential and resort properties in the secondary home market throughout the state. His prior experience includes the Assistant Director of Transportation for Wake County Schools. His educational accomplishments include Real Estate License, Fonville Morisey Real Estate School in Raleigh State Residential License/Certification, Triangle Real Estate & Appraisal School, Raleigh Department of City and Regional Planning Certification, UNC at Chapel Hill Master of Science in Educational Administration and Supervision, North Carolina Central University Masters of Curriculum & Instruction, North Carolina Central University a Teacher Certificate from Saint Augustine’s College Bachelor of Science in Professional History, North Carolina A&T State University. Mr. Abron is a member of several organizations, including Triangle Multiple Listing Service National Association of Real Estate Appraisers, North Carolina A &T Alumni Association Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Wake County Transportation Board Raleigh Wake Citizens Association NAACP and St. Ambrose Episcopal Church. He also holds licenses as a Real Estate Broker, State Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser and State of North Carolina Loan Officer. Mr. Abron’s mother, Mrs. Lillian Bias Abron is a 1942 ECSU alumna. She was the daughter of John Henry Bias, for whom an ECSU residence hall is named. Mr. Abron’s wife of 32 years, Teresa, is a Wake County middle school principal. They have a daughter, Alesa Monique, and a son, Joseph Thomas, Jr.
