ECSU welcomed 15 youths for the first All-Girls Ace Academy. The weeklong aviation program for high school youths was sponsored by the Aviation Science Program at ECSU, the N.C. Department of Transportation’s Division of Aviation. Students learned about assorted career options in aviation, types of airplanes, the theory of flight and aviation history. Students also launched small rockets, visited area museums and took flights over the region. During the awards ceremony Dr. Sharp showed parents an example of one of the carts used during a segment of the ACE Camp. The students were challenged to find a sufficient amount of energy to power the carts for student competitions. They closed the week with an awards ceremony where Dr. J. Anthony Sharp, ECSU staff, Chancellor Gilchrist, local city council members and Mr. Russ Haddad, a representative from Rep. G.K. Butterfield’s office, applauded them for completing their first ACE Academy.
