February 27, 2007The ECSU Albemarle Symphony Orchestra presents "Meet the Teachers" at 3 p.m. on March 4 in the auditorium of the Mickey L. Burnim Fine Arts Center. The concert of classical favorites features soloists– music teachers–from the Albemarle’s public schools. These music teachers will showcase the standards of excellence they’ve acquired over years of study and practice. Guests include Monica Williams, a soprano from Pasquotank County High School Lynnette Smith on flute from Northside Elementary School Rose Taylor on clarinet from Camden Middle School Wayne James on trumpet from Northeastern High School Allan Coyle on trumpet from Currituck County High School Paula Coyle on trumpet from Currituck County Middle School Candice Adams, a guest conductor and an ECSU music education major. The orchestra will accompany the music teachers performing master works by Bach, Puccini, Grieg and others. This concert is held to raise awareness of the importance of music in our schools. In addition, it will raise awareness of the Elizabeth City Music Club Scholarships. Those scholarships are reserved for the Albemarle’s graduating seniors who select music as their college major. The club offers two scholarships each year which students can use at any accredited institution. For more information, please contact Dr. Michael Weaver, conductor of the orchestra and an assistant professor in the ECSU Music Department, 252-335-3363.
