The National Alumni Association (NAA) of Elizabeth City State University announces Dr. Paul Norman, a 1981 graduate and current member of the ECSU Board of Trustees, as Mr. Alumni 2009-2010. Dr. Paul Norman raised approximately $29,000. Dr. Norman is a member of the Raleigh-Durham Alumni Chapter. Dr. Richard Reid, Mr. Alumni 2003 and Dr. Viola Vaughan-Holland, Miss. Alumni 20008-2009, crowned Dr. Norman at the October 15 Mr./Miss. Alumni Coronation.
The first runner up is Mrs. Irene Bullock Overton, 1963 graduate, who raised $3,235. Mrs. Overton is a member of the Washington, DC Metro Alumni Chapter. She is a lifetime member of the NAA.
The second runner up is Mrs. Alice McDonald who raised $2,645.&nbsp She is a 1963 graduate, a member of the Peninsula Alumni Chapter and a lifetime member of the NAA.
Third runner up is Mrs. Susetta Bowser Johnson who raised $1,550. She is a 1977 graduate, a member of the Elizabeth City Area Alumni Chapter and a lifetime member of the NAA.
The fourth runner up is Mr. Willis Ferebee who raised $1,550. He is a 1959 graduate, a member of the Virginia Beach Alumni Chapter and a lifetime member of the NAA.
The Mr./Miss. Alumni Association is an annual fundraiser held during Homecoming. Dr. Norman’s total is the largest amount of money raised by a single contestant. The money raised supports scholarships managed by the ECSU Foundation. All of the ECSU Alumni Chapters raised money for this fundraiser. Mrs. Mary Cates, chairperson for Homecoming 2009, and Dr. Charles Cherry, president of the NAA, join Chancellor and Mrs. Willie Gilchrist in applauding Mr. Alumni, the contestants and all the contributors.
