ECSU congratulates Deysi Galvan Juarez, Bearer of the Mace for the university’s 146th commencement. The ceremony was held May 3 at Roebuck Stadium. She earned Bachelor of Science degrees for her double major in accounting and business administration. She graduated Summa Cum Laude, a category reserved for students who graduated with a cumulative grade point average of 3.80 to 4.0. The honor of bearing the mace is reserved for the non-transfer, graduating senior who holds the highest cumulative grade point average. Galvan Juarez is a graduate of Northeastern High School. The ECSU Mace is 70 inches tall and consists of three dynamic centers of significant components. The focal point is a replica of a Viking’s head cast in bronze, with brass rays extending from the center depicting knowledge, enlightenment, wisdom and democracy. A bronze seal of the university adorns the reverse side. ECSU Professor Alexis Joyner, the chairperson of the ECSU Art Department, designed the mace.
