Catlyn Campbell was the Bearer of the Mace for the 149th Commencement at Elizabeth City State University. Campbell finished her undergraduate degree (English) within two years. The honor of bearing the mace is reserved for the non-transfer, graduating senior who holds the highest cumulative grade point average. The ECSU Mace is 70 inches tall and consists of three dynamic centers of significant components. The focal point is a replica of a Viking’s head cast in bronze, with brass rays extending from the center depicting knowledge, enlightenment, wisdom and democracy. A bronze seal of the university adorns the reverse side. ECSU Professor Alexis Joyner, the chairperson of the ECSU Art Department, designed the mace.
Campbell and the remaining graduates join approximately 17,000 as alumni of Elizabeth City State University.
