Business major wins $2,500 award

Christian Alva, a business major in the Walter R. Davis School of Business and Economics at Elizabeth City State University, won a $2,500 award from the Hampton Roads Chapter of the American Marketing Association and Smithfield Foods. The Most Promising Marketer Prize was given for the first time. Applicants were required to complete a brief interview and to submit an essay, a resume, and a recommendation from a university faculty member. Alva competed with five nominees from five other universities for the award. Dr. James Chow, a marketing professor in the ECSU Walter R. Davis School of Business and Economics, recommended Alva for the award. Alva worked with Dr. Chow to establish an ECSU chapter of the American Marketing Association. Alva is a member of the International Students Club, the Chess Club, and the Aeronautics Club. Alva, a non traditional student from Chapel Hill, NC., graduated May 3 with a bachelor’s degree in business administration. He had two minors at ECSU-Spanish and Aviation Science.
