Black Journalists select Kip Branch as Journalism Educator of the Year

June 21, 2006The National Association of Black Journalists (NABJ) recently selected Mr. Kip Branch, an assistant professor in Elizabeth City State University’s Language, Literature and Communication Department, as its Journalism Educator of the Year for 2006. On August 18, the organization will recognize Branch and other NABJ award recipients at the organization’s Hall of Fame Banquet in Indiana. Branch was nominated for the prestigious award by former students from North Carolina Central University where he taught for 10 years. Branch and Dr. Patsy B. Perry, then chairman of the NCCU English Department, were the driving forces behind the establishment of the department’s media journalism program. Branch has been a part of ECSU’s Language, Literature and Communication Department since 1997. In addition to his array of professional media experiences with the National Urban League and the National NAACP, Branch has also held teaching positions at the Wilson College, Shaw University and the University of Hartford.
