Black History month speaker recalls trailblazers

Dr. Marla Frederick, guest speaker for the annual Black History Month assembly at Elizabeth City State University, reminds the audience African American trailblazers such as civil rights leaders and founders of Historically Black Colleges and Universities made a difference in society when they made other peoples concerns their concerns. The national theme for the month long observance is Celebrating Community: A Tribute to Black Fraternal, Social and Community Institutions. Dr. Marla Frederick is an assistant professor of African and African American Studies and of the Study of Religion at Harvard University, and the author of Between Sundays: Black Womens Everyday Struggles of Faith.
