Viking’s Pigford Named CIAA Men’s Player of the Week

HAMPTON, VA- Monday afternoon Elizabeth City State men’s basketball player C.J. Pigford became the first Viking to receive a weekly basketball honor this season as he was named CIAA Basketball Player of the Week as announced by the conference office. In two games last weekend, Pigford averaged 23.5 points per game during the 2006 RL Vaughan Basketball Classic in Elizabeth City, NC. En route to All-Classic Team honors, he had 30 points and 8 rebounds versus Kentucky State on November 24th and registered a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds against Claflin University on the following day. A native of Washington, NC, Pigford currently ranks 7th in the CIAA in scoring (21.7 points) and 3rd in rebounding (9.7 rpg). The Vikings will open up their conference schedule on Tuesday, November 28th at 7:30pm at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC.
