Vikings appear on ESPN December 3

November 30, 2005 Two Elizabeth City State University football standouts, one former and one present, were recently interview for a segment that will air at halftime of the 2005 Pioneer Bowl on Saturday, December 3. Johnnie Walton (ECSU Class of 1969) and junior linebacker Emanuel Plummer recently sat down before an ESPN interviewer and camera crew at the CIAA Headquarters in Hampton, VA to share their experience of playing in the CIAA and beyond. Walton, who was recently re-elected to another term as the 4th Ward City Councilman for Elizabeth City, was a four-year starting quarterback for the Vikings. After being named All-CIAA his senior year, he went on to play professionally for the Los Angeles Rams and the Philadelphia Eagles. He was inducted into the ECSU Hall of Fame on October 25, 1985. Emanuel Plummer was a standout for the Viking football team this past season. He was named CIAA Defensive Lineman of the Week twice this season and was named to the 2005 All-CIAA Defensive Second Team. He led the Vikings in tackles this past season and tied at 5th overall in the CIAA in total tackles. The Pioneer Bowl will pit Tuskegee University from the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (SIAC) against Bowie State University of the CIAA. The game will take place at Charlotte Memorial Stadium in Charlotte, NC this Saturday December 3, 2005 at 2pm. The game will air live on ESPN Classic.
