Viking Profile: Lacara Ramsey
Lacara Ramsey’s smile reveals her Viking Pride. As a senior majoring in psychology, the Elizabeth City State University student has spent her time on campus immersed in her studies, and as an active member of the Viking student community.
Originally from Durham, North Carolina, Ms. Ramsey came to ECSU not only because it’s an affordable university that provides a quality education, but also to “gain the HBCU experience.”
“My experience at ECSU has been very enlightening,” she said. “I have learned so much and met so many people. My goal while attending ECSU is to leave my mark and continue growing and flourishing in my educational journey.”
Her journey as a psychology major will, she says, lead her to graduate school. Ms. Ramsey’s plan is to earn her Master’s Degree in industrial organizational psychology after graduation in May.
“My career goals are helping to assist companies in their hiring process and perfecting the work environment,” she said.
Ms. Ramsey has a head start on the latter. She’s been active as a student working to perfect the student experience at ECSU.
She is a member of the Campus Activities Board’s late night and weekend activities committee, and has been a student worker for the Office of Student Engagement, to name just two activities.
“My experience at ECSU has been very insightful,” said Ms. Ramsey. “I have learned so much within psychology. I have also built so many relationship with people on campus and in the community.”
As a senior, Ms. Ramsey says her experience tells her that up and coming Vikings should “do research and plan,” when it comes to their education.
“Be sure about what you want,” she said. “There are so many resources on campus to help you. You will meet so many great faculty and students who will go the extra mile for you.”
She also says underclassmen should get involved on campus, “but always keep education first.”
“There are so many ways to spend your time on campus while making a difference,” said Ms. Ramsey.
However, Ms. Ramsey emphasizes that academics are a top priority.
“I would advise all rising freshmen to prioritize their academics,” she said. “There will be challenges on your educational journey, but troubles do not last. There are academic advisors and counselors on campus to assist you in conquering your educational goals.”
