Trahan named South Atlantic Region Player of the Year

AIKEN, SC- Celeste Trahan has been selected as the 2008 South Atlantic Region Player of the Year as voted by the region’s Sports Information Directors. Joining Trahan on the First-Team are: Anna Atkinson (Wingate), Tiara Good (Lander), Meredith Legg (USC Aiken), and Syretha Marble (North Georgia). First-Team selections will now go on the national ballot for All-America consideration. The Second-Team members are: Kyria Buford (Johnson C. Smith), LaShonda Chiles (Lander), Tonique Frasier (Newberry), Kaneetha Gordon (Armstrong Atlantic State), and Stephanie Neptune (Tusculum). Celeste Trahan, a two-time Daktronics All-American, was named both CIAA Player and Defensive Player of the Year this season after leading NCAA Division II in both scoring and rebounding. She became the first woman in NCAA Division II history to record 2,000 points and 1,500 rebounds in a career and was recently named a WBCA/State Farm All-America finalist for the second consecutive year. A three-time First Team honoree was also named to the ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District Third Team boasting a G.P.A. of 3.3 as an Education major at ECSU. Trahan posted 85 double-doubles in her career and on February 17th on this year became the first woman and just the fourth person overall to have her jersey (#00) retired. She ranks fourth all time on the CIAA career scoring list and is second all time in the conference in rebounding.
