Come to Elizabeth City State University to participate in and learn from another semester of live, legal assistance videoconferences. The topics cover a wide range of matters that impact people every day. Fortunately, residents of the Albemarle can take advantage of these sessions without driving to North Carolina Central University’s Law School in Durham, where the videoconferences originate. ECSU is one of four Historically Black Colleges and Universities that offer this series free of charge. The sessions are held in Moore Hall, Room 124 on the ECSU campus. Other institutions hosting the legal series are Winston-Salem State University, North Carolina A&T State University and Fayetteville State University. Topics scheduled for this semester, and the date held, include:
- Understanding the Ins and Outs of Establishing a Child Support Order, Jan. 22.
- Being an Organizational Champion: Supporting the Organization and the Executive Director, Jan. 28.
- IRS Filing Statuses and Dependents Issues: Which Filing Status Should I Use and Who Can I Claim? Jan. 31.
- The Board’s Role: Fund Development & Financial Support, Feb. 25.
- Child Support, It’s More than Money: "Child Support Modification," March 5.
- Stewarding the Organization’s Resources, March 25.
- Child Support, It’s More Than Money: "Child Support Show Cause Orders," March 26.
- Managing Crises and Transitions, April 22.
- Family Law Questions and Answers Session, April 23 and May 14.
NCCU School of Law, in the fall of 2010, received approximately $2 million in funding from the U.S. Commerce Department’s National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA). That funding made it possible to expand broadband infrastructure and deliver vital legal services throughout North Carolina. Technology Assisted Legal Instruction and Services, or TALIAS, expands access to the NCCU School of Law’s nationally-ranked legal education and clinical programs. Advanced registration is recommended for each videoconference. To attend a session at ECSU, call (252) 335-8548.
