Talent Search Program surpasses competition

June 16, 2005A student team from ECSU’s Educational Talent Search Program participated in the North Carolina Council for the Educational Opportunity Personnel Academic Bowl Contest. The team won first place in overall competition, first place in the spelling bee and the super quiz contest, and second place in the written examination category. They competed against talent search teams from four other institutions of higher learning that host Talent Search Programs. Since the team won first place in the overall competition, they represented the state of North Carolina at the regional competition in Atlanta, Georgia. There they won third place. Participants from the ECSU Talent Search Program included Shaune Johnson, Alicia Stokeley and Alysha Purvis from Camden County Kenneth Clemons from Chowan County Chelsi Robinson from Currituck County and Ebony Hedgebeth, Joby Rote, Emily Hardison, and Ladarius Bryant from Washington County. The Educational Talent Search program provides academic, career, and financial counseling to middle school and high school student participants as a means of encouraging them to graduate from high school and enroll and graduate from postsecondary schools of their choice. The Education Talent Search is funded by the U.S. Department of Education.
