Softball Team begins CIAA tournament Thursday at noon

April 10, 2006 The Elizabeth City State University Lady Vikings softball team will begin tournament play at the 2006 CIAA Softball Championships on Thursday at 12:00 noon in Petersburg, VA. The Lady Vikings enter the double elimination tournament as the #3 seed in the CIAA Eastern Division. They will begin their title defense against the #2 seed from the Western Division, the Lady Golden Bulls of Johnson C. Smith University. When the two teams clashed back on April 1 in Charlotte, NC, they spilt a doubleheader with ECSU taking game one 4-3 before dropping game two 7-6. ECSU finished the regular season at 12-12 overall with a 12-8 mark in the CIAA. Should ECSU defeat Johnson C. Smith on Thursday, they will move on to face the winner of the 12 noon match-up between Bowie State and Saint Augustine’s College at 5 pm. If the Lady Vikings drop their game to the Lady Golden Bulls, they will face a must win situation versus the loser of the Bowie State/Saint Augustine’s game at 2:30pm to stay alive in tournament play. Thursday’s games of the 2006 Softball Championship will take place at the Petersburg Softball Complex in Petersburg, VA.
