The Let’s Can Hunger Challenge, sponsored by Campbell Soup Company, is a competition that provides SIFE teams with the opportunity to participate in a series of objectives including Urgent Hunger Relief, Lasting Hunger Relief and Hunger Awareness. These objectives specifically include:
- A team’s ability to organize and implement successful food drives in their local community.
- A demonstrated effort for the SIFE team to assist individuals and families in breaking the cycle of hunger.
- A plan that demonstrates an integrated marketing campaign to raise awareness about the issue of hunger in a team’s community and/or country.
"Considering the World Health Organization’s estimate that nearly 1 billion people don’t know where their next meal will come from, we thought we would take this challenge" said John McLamb Jr., a&nbspjunior from Greensboro, N.C.&nbsp "It’s more important now than ever to lend a helping hand to our neighbors and to help break the cycle of hunger."
To donate, drop off a canned good or non perishable food in the collection box stationed in the lobby of Williams Hall near the entrance of the Walter R. Davis School of Business and Economics. The food will be donated to the Food Bank of the Albemarle by late March.
Entries submitted for the Let’s Can Hunger Challenge will be evaluated by a panel featuring representatives from Campbell Soup Company. The overall competition winning team will be featured in a special Campbell print advertisement in addition to participating in a strategic planning session with a Campbell’s executive to address strategies for assisting victims in the cycle of hunger.
Each of the top three overall winning teams will receive a cash prize to help fund future SIFE projects, in the amount of:
- First Place: $3,000
- Second Place: $2,500
- Third Place: $2,250
"Empowering SIFE students to join our efforts in the fight against hunger will create an important dialogue around this issue in communities across the world, and make a difference," said Denise Morrison, President-North America Soup, Sauces and Beverages.
&nbsp"We are very impressed with the outpouring of ideas and activities that came out of the USA Let’s Can Hunger Challenge during the first year of this program, and look forward to teams raising awareness and providing hunger relief in their communities as the program expands internationally."
