Port Discover names officers and board of directors

September 29, 2005 Elizabeth City, NC-The officers and Board of Directors have been named for Port Discover: Northeastern North Carolina’s Center for Hands-On Science, Inc. Dr. Ronald Blackmon, vice chancellor for academic affairs at Elizabeth City State University, has been elected chairman. Vice chair is Ms Rhonda Twiddy, president of the Elizabeth City Area Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Freda McBride, dean of the Walter R. Davis School of Business and Economics at ECSU serves as treasurer, and Ms. LaTanya Afolayan with the ECSU Office of Institutional Advancement is secretary. Mr. Russ Haddad, Director of Tourism, Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Couinty Tourism Development Authority
Dr. Jennifer Keane-Dawes, Interim Dean, School of Arts & Humanities, Elizabeth City State University
Ms. Debbie Leete, Community Outreach Manager, Albemarle Hospital
Mr. Mark Small, Board Member, Elizabeth City-Pasquotank Public Schools
Mr. William T. Younger, III. Associate Professor of Physics, College of the Albemarle Port Discover is a community-based, non-profit organization, established to develop an interactive science center to enhance the public’s understanding and enjoyment of science through engaging programs, activities, and exhibits for people of all ages. Elizabeth City State University along with the Elizabeth City Area Chamber of Commerce initiated the project which has attracted broad community support. Port Discover launched its programs with a series of hands-on science activities during the Museum of the Albemarle’s Day on the River, Saturday, September 17.
