McLean, CIAA Athletic Director of the Year

May 30, 2005Dr. Edward McLean, Athletic Director at Elizabeth City State University, has been named CIAA Athletic Director of the Year. This marks the second time he has received this recognition as he was honored with the award for the 1996-1997 school year. Under Dr. McLean’s leadership, Vikings athletics experienced resurgence in 2004-2005. The women’s basketball team advanced to the CIAA Finals for the second time in school history. ECSU also captured championships in both softball and baseball. For softball it was the second championship in four years and baseball claimed its first ever CIAA crown. Since July of 2004, Dr. McLean has held the position of president of the CIAA Athletic Director’s Association. He is a graduate of North Carolina Central University in Durham, NC, where he earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees. He obtained his doctorate from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. This fall will mark his twelfth year as the Athletic Director at Elizabeth City State.
