Hertford County students earn college credit hours

Elizabeth City State University recently began a dual enrollment program in conjunction with Hertford County Schools that will allow high school students to earn college credits while working toward their high school diploma. Representatives from the two institutions gathered early in September to celebrate the signature of the Memorandum of Understanding that will allow students, in grades 10 – 12, to earn college credit hours while attending high school. The two parties have agreed to operate the dual enrollment program for the 2014 – 2015 academic year and they have the option to renew the agreement. The Hertford County Board of Education will fund the cost of related books, instructional materials, counseling and high school staff to work with the dual enrollment program. The university will select and provide faculty to teach the college level courses. Fifteen students will participate in this cohort of this dual enrollment program. On their high school graduation date, the participants will obtain their high school diploma and credit for the related college courses they complete. These students are expected to enroll at thereafter and enter ECSU’s aviation science program.
