Hall wins third place at VA-NC LSAMP symposium

Elizabeth City State University senior Brittnei Hall, won third place in the oral competition at the 6th Annual Virginia-North Carolina Alliance Symposium held April 21-22, 2013, on the campus of Virginia Common Wealth University, in Richmond Virginia. Brittnei Hall, a senior Biology major, received third -place honors for her oral presentation entitled Using EMS to Produce Mutants of Cleome. She credits Dr. Margaret Young, her mentor for her research success. Other participants from ECSU included Kenya Holley, junior in Biology Tanisha Searles, Senior in Biology Danny Alston, Jr., senior in Chemistry and Rontrel Peoples, a freshman in Biology. Around 50 undergraduates from 9 colleges and universities participated in the conference. The annual event showcased students’ research on topics ranging from Inflammation-Mediated Surviving in Prostrate Cancer Cells to Computational Reliability Statistics of an Electrical Power Grid. Three faculty/staff members (Dr. Gloria Payne – Chair of Biology and Marine Environmental Science, Mr. O. Gooden- Aviation, and Ms. Prudentia Ngwainmbi -LSAMP Coordinator represented ECSU at the two day event. The conference was sponsored by Virginia Commonwealth University and the Virginia-North Carolina Louis Stokes Alliance for Minority Participation.
