GIVING TUESDAY: You Can Help ECSU Support Students
As part of the worldwide Giving Tuesday celebration, Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) hopes you will make a small, monthly tax-deductible donation to the campus. ECSU’s goal is to gain 100 new monthly donors to support students. Your gift will help cover costs for basic living necessities, housing, education-related expenses, travel, or emergency relocation expenses.
“Giving Tuesday inspires people all over the world to celebrate generosity, and our hope is to add 100 new monthly donors to help our students focus on their academic success instead of worrying about money,” says Chancellor Karrie G. Dixon. “We know how important donor funding is to the university and the young adults working to better their lives. Even $10 a month will help us greatly.”
The Student Assistance Fund helps support students in their time of need, such as Alexus “Dani” Elliott, who is a senior at ECSU. “When I first received the news that my house burned down, I was emotionally overwhelmed. I am a first-generation college student from a single parent home. I wasn’t sure how my family and I would ever recover from such a loss. The Student Assistance Fund was such a tremendous blessing,” says Elliott.
How to Give
Donating to ECSU is easy! You’ll feel terrific after you set up your monthly recurring payment. Just like your cable, cell phone, or other bills, you can enter your information once and you will be all set. For tax purposes, ECSU will send you an annual statement reflecting the prior year’s total contributions, which is usually mailed by the end of January.
- Go to ecsu.edu/givingtuesday.
- Click on “Give Now” and enter the amount you would like to contribute monthly.
- Your donation will go directly to the Student Assistance Fund, or you can select another area of the university to receive the gift.
Ms. Ernestine White from the ECSU Class of 1971 says, “There is always somebody in need like we were, and if you can help somebody, just give a little bit each month. You don’t need to give a lot; give a little bit all the time – that’s what I try to do. In the end, it adds up.”
Ms. White says without ECSU, she couldn’t have gotten the teaching job that supported her family. ECSU is also family affair. Ms. White’s son and daughter graduated from ECSU and went on to get their master’s degrees. In addition, her brother, sister-in-law, and nephew also graduated from the university.
If you have questions about your recurring gift, please contact the ECSU foundation at (252) 335-3225 or ecsufoundation@ecsu.edu.
