Freshman Get Dept. of Business and Economics Intro at ‘Major Fusion’ Event

Freshmen and faculty at the Department of Business and Economics gather in front of Williams Hall Thursday, March 28 for the first “Major Fusion” event, welcoming recently declared business administration and accounting majors.
Elizabeth City State University freshman who have declared business administration or accounting as their majors received a big welcome into the Department of Business and Economics family Thursday, March 28.
According to Dr. Debjani Kanjilal, the Master Advisor Council, University Studies, and the Department of Business & Economics planned and organized the first “Major Fusion” event to welcome those freshman students and to transition them into the department.
“The purpose of this event was to transition the freshman students from University Studies to the Department of Business and Economics, and get to know their major advisors,” said Dr. Kanjilal. “The event greatly benefited due to the support and assistance received from University Studies and Academic Affairs.”
Students gathered in a classroom inside Williams Hall to listen to several presentations and meet their advisors. Dr. Ngozi Oriaku outlined life as a business administration or accounting major, and introduced the faculty members.
The event concluded with giveaways provided by Academic Affairs and the Department of Business and Economics. Light refreshment was provided by the Department of Business and Economics and Dr. Shirin Siddiqui, Associate Professor of Chemistry.
The goal of the Master Advisor Council and University Studies is to continue these events in future semesters and work with other departments to do similar events to welcome the freshman students into their respective programs, said Dr. Kanjilal.
