ECU professor speaks for Black History Month assembly

Elizabeth City State University will hold its annual Black History Month assembly at 11 a.m. on February 27 in the Robinson Auditorium of the Mickey L. Burnim Fine Arts Center. Dr. David Dennard, associate professor of history and director of the Institute for Historical and Cultural Research at East Carolina University, is our speaker. Dennard specializes in 19th and 20th century social and cultural history in the U.S. In addition to his position with the Institute for Historical and Cultural Research, Dennard serves on the Historic Bath Commission, a board that provides leadership for the oldest town in North Carolina. Dennard is also a current member of the executive council for the Association for the Study of African American Life and History. His publication credits include articles and essays in the St. James Guide to Biography, The Research Guide to American Historical Biography, The Journal of Negro History, The North Carolina Historical Review and The Journal of Southern History. Dennard holds a B.S. degree from Fort Valley State College, an M.A. degree from Atlanta University and a Ph.D. degree from Northwestern University.
