ECSU to Host Free Annual Jazz Festival on April 19
The Elizabeth City State University (ECSU) Department of Music and Visual Arts will hold its annual Jazz Festival on Wed., April 19, at 7:30 p.m., featuring the ECSU Jazz Ensemble and members of the L.A. Big Daddy’s Blues Band. The event is in the Mickey L. Burnim Fine Arts Center and is free and open to the public.
In addition to ECSU’s Jazz Ensemble, the university’s Popular Music Ensemble and ECSU alumna Jaylen Webb will perform.
L.A. Big Daddy’s Blues Band includes Matt Bragg (bass) and David E. Jackson (drums), who are the foundation of the Los Angeles based music group. They are joined by Norman Williams (piano and music director). The band has several chart-topping singles, including “Proud Man Blues” and “Chain Gang.”
Master classes with ECSU students and a K-12 clinic will be held as part of the festival on Tues., April 18, and Wed., April 19.
