Elizabeth City State University’s Office of Distance and Continuing Education in partnership with North Carolina State University’s Industrial Extension Service hosted the Lean Health Care 100 – Pharmacy Simulation seminar on Wednesday, May 19th, 2010 at the K.E. White Graduate and Continuing Education Center.&nbsp
The half day seminar taught participants the valuable but simple tools for analyzing, understanding and redesigning work processes.&nbsp Participants learned methods to incorporate problem solving and continuous improvement in daily work.&nbsp A hands-on demonstration of lean concepts through multiple rounds in a simulated pharmacy setting provided participants opportunities to reduce wasted patient and worker time, dissatisfaction and potential errors by applying lean concepts.&nbsp Information sessions included how lean concepts reduce waste, increase revenue, and enhance productivity in the workplace.&nbsp Participants received continuing education credits approved by Eastern Area Health Education Center and the University of North Carolina Eshelman School of Pharmacy accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education.
The seminar facilitators were Gene Smith, Lean Health Product Lead and Jim Kurian, Lean Improvement Specialist with NCSU Industrial Extension Service.&nbsp The seminar coordinators were Kimberley Stevenson, Ed.D., Loretta Powers, MSIT,&nbsp and Jennifer Robertson, PharmD, with Elizabeth City State University and Jillian Mistak, MBS, with Eastern Area Health Education Center.&nbsp Participants included pharmacists from local and regional area hospitals and retail markets.&nbsp
