ECSU hosts IMA collegiate music conference

The Elizabeth City State University Department of Music will welcome students and faculty from 11 institutions for the 54th annual Intercollegiate Music Association (IMA) conference Feb. 6 through 8. Participants are expected from institutions in Maryland Virginia and North Carolina. Music students will complete a series of intense workshops during the two days. The conference will culminate at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday Feb. 8 with a free concert in the auditorium of the Mickey L. Burnim Fine Arts Center on the ECSU campus. There the students and guest conductors will present one of the year’s most memorable performances among college and university symphonic bands string orchestras mixed choirs and jazz ensembles. The IMA was founded in 1960 as a vehicle for enriching and enhancing the development of students from its member institutions. IMA has been unwavering in its promotion of excellence in both large and small vocal and instrumental ensembles. By providing students and faculty musical opportunities in annual conferences workshops seminars recitals lectures demonstrations and discussions the IMA is fulfilling the ideals of its visionary founders.
