ECSU holds Veterans Day Ceremony on November 11

Elizabeth City State University welcomes Col. Rodney T. Haggins Sr., an ECSU alumnus (’87), as the speaker at 11 a.m., on November 11 for the Veterans Day Ceremony in the Walter N. and Henrietta B. Ridley Student Complex. Veterans and active duty personnel are welcome to attend. Haggins is the Chief of Current Operations, Force 2025 and Beyond Directorate, for the Army Capability Integration Center in Fort Eustis Virginia. Prior to his current assignment, Haggins was the Army Chief of Staff Senior Fellow at North Western University’s Kellogg School of Management, in Evanston Illinois and Manpower Division Chief at Headquarters U.S. Central Command, at MacDill Air Force Base Florida. He has held numerous leadership positions, during 27 years of service including platoon leader, executive officer, commander, observer trainer, secretary of the General Staff, general’s aide, branch chief and division chief. He completed two combat tours to Iraq (Desert Shield/Desert Storm (1990-91) and Iraqi Freedom (2008-09) and one peacekeeping tour in Bosnia, Herzegovinian (Joint Endeavor 2005-06). Haggins, a native of Goldsboro, N. C., earned a B.S. in criminal justice from ECSU. He holds a Master of Strategic Studies degree from the U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pa. His major awards and decorations include: the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Bronze Star (3rd oak leaf cluster), the Meritorious Service Medal (4th oak leaf cluster), Army Commendation Medal and Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal Iraq Campaign Medal and Airborne Wings. Haggins is married to the former Brigitta France of Orangeburg, S. C. They have two sons, Rodney Jr., and Matthew.
