October 20, 2006 Area officials celebrated the opening of the ECSU Foundation H.E.A.L.T.H. Clinic at 404 Harriet Street, the former headquarters for the Elizabeth City Housing Authority. This new clinic is a joint project between the ECSU Public Health and Sanitation program and the Elizabeth City Authority. A $400,000 grant from the NC Health and Wellness Trust Fund will support educational programs that address health disparities among minorities and underserved citizens of Elizabeth City. The programs will promote good nutrition, regular exercise and healthy lifestyles. Of particular importance, is the prevention of obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease and cancer. The NC Health and Wellness Trust Fund was created by the General Assembly as one of three entities to invest North Carolina’s portion of the Tobacco Master Settlement Agreement.
